Electrical High Voltage Lineman

About

Linemen work on or around high voltage wires and equipment. They respond to and correct problems with the electrical distribution system during any hours and after severe weather. Also, they assist in the daily construction and maintenance of the distribution and transmission systems.

What Work You'll Do

  • Inspect and test power lines and other equipment using special reading and testing devices.
  • Coordinate work assignment preparation and completion with other workers.
  • Replace or straighten damaged poles.

Things You Need to Know

  • Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Mathematics - Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Physics - Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications.
